CTBR Staff Writer Published 20 February 2013

The southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has invited bids for the setting up of 1,000MW of solar power projects in the region.

In response, the state received 294 bids from 184 bidders with a total capacity installation of 1,350MW.

Alfa InfraProp and Lanco Solar are two of the bidders with proposals for 80MW and 60MW installations respectively, reported the Hindu BusinessLine.

The state's tender for the purchase of electricity generated by solar plants, includes power purchase agreements.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy had earlier indicated that the development of solar, wind and bio-mass power projects is priority for the power-striken state.

Focus will be on early completion and sorting out concerns with regard to implementation, said Reddy.

The districts of Medak, Mahboobnagar and Nalgonda that share a border with the capital city of Hyderabad, received the highest number of bids.
